Grant Moffat Memorial Ambassador
Award
Grant Moffat, Holmsyde Charolais, Forrest, Manitoba, was a Charolais breeder,
photographer, writer, youth enthusiast, judge, sales manager, fitter, editor and
accountant. He was a special person that everyone could learn something from.
He never felt he had to follow the pack or conform to what everyone did. He
made his own path. He stuck with purple even when it wasn’t in style. Purple
Grant had a trademark that everyone knew. In marketing, brand name recognition
is important and Grant had it mastered for decades. In the cattle industry,
Grant touched the lives of many. He helped countless numbers of young boys and
girls get started in showing cattle. In fact, summer 2006 he commented that he
could remember taking 86 kids on the show road with him. Grant’s summer holiday
was taking a full trailer of cattle and a couple of greenhorns to a few shows a
weekend for a good part of the summer. In the previous few years, Grant
still enjoyed going to these shows, but as a photographer or a judge, not as a
fitter or showman having to do the work. Grant was a tireless promoter for
the Charolais breed for many years and the youth of all breeds. He was named the
CCYA Honoree for his dedication and commitment to their program. Through the 80s
and 90s, there wasn’t a breeder in any breed that exhibited at more shows,
attended and supportd more sales across Western Canada than Grant. Grant was
one of the younger presidents of the Manitoba Charolais Association in 1980 and
also served as secretary for a time. He embraced change, buying a laptop and
digital camera, he worked hard to learn to use them not just for fun, but to
improve the projects he was dedicated to doing. Grant went missing August
18, 2006 at the age of 55
